Hello and welcome! My name is Melissa Pedersen and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) working in the South Bay. I understand how making the decision to begin therapy can be a scary and sometimes intimidating idea. In light of this, I provide therapy in a comfortable and relaxed office setting where people can feel at ease. My clinical approach to therapy is simple and straightforward, which allows clients to quickly learn the new skills needed for change. I encourage a collaborative process so new and established clients can feel safe to speak their minds and explore issues that can be troubling or difficult to discuss.
For those who are not familiar with the field, MFTs specialize in improving relationships, which can include pre-marital, marital, parent-child, interpersonal, family, and work relationships. In order to earn my license, I completed an Undergraduate Degree and Masters Degree in Psychology along with more than 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, and passed both a written and oral examination. I am required to complete continuing education trainings to maintain my license. I consult with other clinical professionals in the field to stay current with the most recent evidence based intervention practices.
I am a member of the following professional associations:
American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT)
California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT)
